Who am I
I have been training dogs for shear enjoyment and satisfaction for over 20 years.
My first dog was Holly (yes I got her at Christmas time). She had been abandoned when she was just 6 weeks old, tied to a tree in a wood. Luckily for her she was found and taken to a rescue centre. When I saw I knew she was the one. We had many good years together, she taught me well. How to get more from your dog through being kind and giving them a chance to figure out what it is you want them to do, just by rewarding at the right time and not punishing them for reasons they couldn't possibly understand.
I believe that to train your dog well you should be patient with your dog and yourself.
Remain calm, dogs find it hard to learn in an environment that is frightening.
Be consistent, if your not, then you're not being kind. Also be aware that your dog is learning 24 hours a day, whether it is good or bad.
When training your dog remember timing is most important, not just choosing a time in the day when you are both receptive and not to tired but the timing involving when and how to reward your dog. For this reason we now incorporate clickers into our training sessions, (don't panic you will be taught how to use one)
Most of all your training must be fun, interesting and rewarding for you both.
